Melted Snowmen (and women) cookies – Christmas 2013

ImageImage

So, for Christmas I made a new, and improved batch of melted snowmen, and women cookies. The cookie, is a simple, made from scratch sugar cookie mix, with the classic white cookie frosting. I used new techniques that I’ve slowly began to pick up with all of my new baking/decorating experiments. These are always fun to make, and there’s really no wrong way to make these! For one of the snowmen I did put a little yellow snow on him, just because I thought it was funny. “Don’t eat the yellow snow!” is one of the oldest, and well known sayings/advice we give to children. I baked these for my holiday potluck at work, and I think they enjoyed them. (:

I used fondant for the scarves, gloves, and carrot noses. I used a toothpick and food dye for the arms, and buttons. I used a gourmet food writer for the eyes, mouths, and any eyelashes needed.

Hopefully everyone enjoyed their holidays, I know I enjoyed mine!

A present for my mother’s birthday! – 2013

Image

My mother’s birthday is technically on Monday, but because of me living out of town, and work (you know, life stuff) we decided to celebrate it this weekend. So for her (early) birthday I decided to bake her a “present” it’s a vanilla cake with decorator’s butter-cream, and satin ice fondant. This was my first time covering a cake completely in fondant, so it was an interesting trial. The ribbon was probably the hardest part for me, I had some issues with cracking, but it wasn’t to where it was falling apart. I used a pizza cutter to cut out the tag, and used a gourmet food writer for the dots, and “Happy Birthday” overall I’m happy with how it came out, and my mom loved it! So that made all worth while (:

Margarita Cupcakes – 2013

ImageImageImageImage

We had a coworker’s birthday come up this month, so for her 23rd birthday, I baked her some margarita cupcakes! She has certain items she won’t eat, like milk and eggs. So, I took out the oil, milk and eggs and replaced those with a simple can of sprite. You can hardly tell any difference in taste and there are less calories. These were simple and fun to make, plus she loved them! They held moisture well and the glaze on top was a perfect touch! For the glaze I used margarita mix, fresh squeezed lime juice and powdered sugar. The green rings are sprinkles, and I could not find any drink umbrellas, so I ran across these cute flower/pom pom decorations.
